2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Tourmaline Vineyard, Coombsville AVA, Napa Valley

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Tourmaline Vineyard, Coombsville AVA, Napa Valley

Our limited production 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 95% Coombsville Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Lake Cynthia Merlot and 2.5% Blackwood Vineyard Petit Verdot. The Cabernet came from Coombsville Vineyard, located near Mount George in eastern Napa. This vineyard has deep, well drained volcanic soil and is cooled by the fog and breezes coming in from San Pablo Bay. This allows for a longer growing season, extended “hang time” for flavor development and later harvesting.

Tasting Notes:

Aged in new Alain Fouquet French oak barrel for 24 months, it has a deep red color with a dark red hue. It exhibits a dense nose of ripe blackberries and plums. Upon entry, this wine is sleek and tight, exhibiting dried currant, vanilla bean and ripe berry flavors that are evenly distributed, along with being rich, deep and concentrated. It does end with tight tannins, due to its youth, yet shows expansive flavors. The dense tannin profile firms up the finish and gives the wine enough legs to merit 8+ years of bottle aging.

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stagecoach Vineyard, Napa Valley

Our limited production 2010 is a mountain-grown Cabernet came from 13 year old vines in the Pritchard Hill area of Stagecoach Vineyard at elevations from 900-1800 feet. This site is known for the rugged volcanic rock, well-drained soils and the cool fog that keeps the vineyard between 1-2°C below the Oakville mean temperature.

Tasting Notes:

Aged in Taransaud and Darnajou new French Oak barrels for 24 months and true to the style of our 2004 Indy International Double Gold Medal winner, it has a medium deep, dark red color with a ruby garnet hue. The nose is exhibiting some nice red fruit notes that compliment the subtle toasty oak notes layered with spice and earthy components. Vibrant in the entry, there is loads of fresh ripe fruit flavors, anchored by firm tannins that add a nice long finish to this elegant wine. Enjoy now or allow to improve for another 4-6 years of bottle aging.
